英文摘要 | How to promote police morale and efficiency is always a popular issue in law enforcement administration. In recent years, many countries have invested a lot of money in improving police facilities, equipment and raising police officers' salaries. However, as we know, there are still some unsolved problems in police organizations. In order to make further improvement, we should not only emphasize the hardware or technical aspects, but we should also focus on personal and human factors. This research is to examine police communication in Taiwan, R.O.C.. Police subordinates, especially patrol persons, are the frontline in performing duties and providing services. Their morale and job productivity have significant influences on the success of law enforcement. Furthermore, they influence the police reputation greatly. Good communication and develop esprit de corps and form a positive organizational climate which will help insure positive police morale and job productivity. The purpose of this survey is to investigate and comprehend police communication in Taiwan, R.O.C.. Every patrol officer (527) in each of the fifteen randomly selected police units and the Female Police Corp was sent a questionnaire, and 398 (return rate: 75.52%) valid, completed questionnaires were utilized in the data analysis. In this study, most respondents state that communication in the workplace and the oral expression abilities of supervisors are "fair". Supervisors do not hold meetings often with subordinates. Furthermore, most respondents agree that supervisors tend to dislike less-than-perfect suggestions from subordinates. When the thirty-one questions (including tow sub-questions) were crosstabulated with demographic factors, the results indicated that respondent's gender and supervisor's gender have more influence on the respondents' attitudes than respondents' age and seniority. More male respondents indicate that supervisors' oral expression abilities are fair, but female respondents view them as good. Respondents with female supervisors are more likely to agree that communication in the workplace is good, and also more likely to agree that the oral expression abilities of supervisors are good than those respondents whose supervisor is male. The final results and recommendations of this survey may be helpful in police management and policy making, and could provide references to further research on related topics. |
