英文摘要 | The Taiwan Tea Experiment Station initiated its varietal improvement work, right after its establishment in 1903. Four varieties such as Chinsin Oolong, Chinsin Dapan, Tayeh Oolong and Iinchu Honsin were selected from local varieties. In 1911, a tea breeding program was set up to select superior tea varieties from natural pollinization systems. Ten varieties were planted as breeding parents. In 1916, an artificial hybridization method was made by the station. By the times of Taiwan returned to the Nationalist Government in 19445, there were about 2000 hybrid lines obtained. After 1945, breeding parents used were that of local superior varieties. Crosses between Assam-type tea plants and Chinese-type tea plants were also applied. All varietal selections were through four times selections and a regional trial. The political instability affected a little bit on breeding works. However, the works were restarted in 1948 with varietal selection and hybridization. Based on pre-war and post-war materials, the Station registered in five batches to officially obtain 17 tea varieties. They are TTES No.1 to 17. Eash variety is with special characteristics of making different kinds of tea such as black tea, green tea Paochung tea or Oolong tea. Generally speaking, most varieties released posses characteristics of good plant vigor, high yield and good tea tasting quality of the 17 varieties, the TTES No. 8 and 12 were especially won its reputation for making black tea and Paochung tea respectively. The Station is still going on its breeding program and treats it as an important work in tea agronomy experiments. |
