中文摘要 | 鑑於台灣地區近十幾年來,經濟出現奇蹟,政治展現民主,社會趨向 多元,影響所及,台灣青年價值與自我態度,也隨之遽變。另一方面,長久以來, 國際間許多國家紛紛移民美國,由於氣候、地緣與商業活動關係,南加州已成為 各國僑民集結重鎮。各國青年在此互動交流,產生跨國次青年文化,經長期衝擊 整合,我華僑青年思想行為,亦出現特殊型態。本研究目的,即在於探討比較台 灣與南加州兩地中國青年之心理健康問題及其特性。研究發現南加地區家庭型態 普通小於台灣,但社會-經濟條件、家庭收入及父母教育程度則高於台灣。過半 數南加青年對學校表示滿意,而台灣滿意程度則僅達18.4。兩地青年對主修自然 科學、數學、物理及電腦科學頗有興趣,但對社會行為科學、哲學、語文以及宗 教,則缺乏興趣。三分之二以上青年表示父母瞭解他們的需要,但有較高比例的 台灣青年表示不滿父母。三分之二以上的南加及90以上的台灣青年有焦慮現 象,並常呈現性活動的惡夢。至於擔心自我形象的比例,則台灣三倍於南加。超 過半數的兩地青年,心理感到壓抑,有時覺得人生乏味。四分之一南加及三分之 一台灣青年曾有自殺念頭。對心理-性認同問題,台灣較比嚴重,有時他們對自 己是男是女感到錯亂。台灣飲酒比例高,但吸毒則南加高出四倍。台灣青年有飆 車及性行為越軌傾向,而南加青年則較多逃學現象,其性行為則持保守態度。三 分之一以上的台灣青年及四分之一以上南加青年表示需要成人督促及專業人員 的輔導。本研究所得結論,可供青年父母、教師、學校行政人員、心理輔導人員 及心理健康專業人員之參考。並基於青年心理健康問題的預防、處理與復原,重 新檢視輔導的政策與方針,以強化對青年文化及青年心理健康的瞭解,誠屬必 要。 |
英文摘要 | The purpose of this study is to conupore the major characteristics and mental health problems of Chinese youth who live in SouthemCaUForflia and Taiwan, The major findings from this study indicate that the family size of the youth in Southefn CalifoiTua Group tends io be smaller thanlheir peers in Taiwan Group. The sociteconomic conditions, patterns of family income, and level of education of parents are coflsideiablyhigher in Southern Califonna Gioup. Over onc-half of, the youth in Southern California Group arc satisfied with theif study at school, butonly l8.4 of the youth in Taiwan Group expressed the satisfaction with lheir school study. Over Ofle quartcis of both groups show interest in selecting natural sciences, math, physical and computer sciences as their major study- There is a very lew perceniagp of youth in bothgroups wilt select social and behavioral sciences, phitmophy, languago, or religion as their major study. Over two-third of the youth cxpiess that their parents do undeiStand their needs, but there is a sUnitly higher percentage of youth in Taiwan Group expressine dissatis'faction with their parents. Over two-third of the youth in SCG and over 90 of the youth in TG have high anxiety and bad dreams relatedio their sexual activities. The percentage of poor self-image of the youth in TG is three times higher than their petis in SCG. More thanonc-half of the youth in both groups felt depressed and found no ineaning in life sometime;, One-quarter of lhe youth in SCG and onethird in TG have had suicide idea before, the problems of psycho exual identity of youth in TG is more serious than their peers in SCClhat they are occasionally confused about their gender cither to be a bey or girl- The rate of alcohol ifttalie in TG is higher than SCG, butthe dnig abuse in SCG is almost four times higher than their pecis in TG, The youth in TG tend to be more involved in reckless driving,acting-out sexual behavior with boys or girls, but the youth in SCG tend to be more involved in sicipping school. The youth in SCG tend tobe more conservattvft in their altitude toward sexual behavior- More than one-third of lhe youth in TC and onc-quarters in SCG expressthat they need adult supervision and professional guidance. This study conclude with the recommendations for the parents of youth, teachers, school adiminStiators, youth counselors, and mentalhealth professionals to re-examine their policies, programs, practice and fuidance based upon the principles of prevention, treatment, andrehabilitation of mental health problems for youth. The understanding of youth cultuie and youth mental health is emphasized. |
