中文摘要 | 本文的研究目的是,提供釐清體罰思想的觀念與證據,以促進實現沒有體罰思想 的教育。本研究首先對體罰存在的原因,作了歷史背景與社會因素的探討。繼之以問卷調查 法,以 87 位高、國中教師,278 位高中(職)、國中學生為對象,調查臺灣高國中體罰實 態。並分別從教師與學生的立場,研究他們對體罰所抱持的態度及認知差異。分析結果顯示 ,大部分的教師有體罰學生的經驗,肯定體罰的效果,也贊成採取體罰為教育手段。學生在 態度上贊成體罰者約有一半,年齡愈低者(國中生)較年齡高者,被體罰的經驗較多,也較 支持教師有權,也有必要體罰學生的觀點。從問卷結果可知體罰之所以盛行不輟,可能是因 為教師及一般大眾(包括父母)對體罰存有速效性的效果錯覺,以及在建立紀律、改變兒童 行為上,對取代體罰的教育方法知識貧乏所致。因此,本文乃就體罰的效果,及其所可能引 發的負面影響,以近年一些實證研究結果為基礎,再作深入討論與澄清。同時,也建議教師 們多採用,被証明為有效,且不致產生後遺症的教育方法,以取代體罰。最後,作者認為明 確立法禁止體罰,是免除孩童受傷害,社會受禍害的最佳途徑。 |
英文摘要 | The main purpose of this paper is to present evidence in support of the author's position that corporal punishment in the schools should be banned. Historical and cross-cultural perspectives surrounding the idea of punishment for hitting youngsters are addressed. 87 secondary school teachers and 278 secondary school students were surveyed regarding their experience, attitude and knowledge of corporal punishment. Analysis of the responses displayed a great majority of teachers approved the use of corporal punishment and believed in the positive effects of corporal punishment on students' behavior as well as on academic performance. Age trend is found among students: junior high school students were more likely to have experienced corporal punishment in school and were also more likely to endorse it than were senior hish school students. Research findings which characterize corporal punishment as inefficient and not promoting child development and behavior are described. And a variety of negative effects on the child are discussed to show that many of the beliefs of corporal punishment are myths, and corporal punishment can lead to more problems than it appears to solve. Recommendations of alternatives to punishment are made for ways of promoting effective discipline in schools without resorting to corporal punishment. It is concluded that constitutional challenges to corporal punishment would benefit not only students, but ultimately the society. |
