英文摘要 | The measurement of muscle grip strength with a dynamometer was used to evaluate the nutritional changes of thirty patients who were receiving the total parenteral nutrition. Results were compared with the changes in classical anthropometric measurements and visceral proteins. The same nondominant hand were tested each week. The mean muscle grip strength was significantly increased from 23.5±5.17 kg in the beginning to 27.5±4.89 kg in the second week. This parellelled to the changes in visceral proteins. The mean albumin values increased from 2.53±0.25 g/dl to 2.66±0.23 g/dl in the second week, the mean transferrin from 183.9±29.2 mg/dl to 240.0±24.8 mg/dl and the mean prealbumin from 20.06±2.84 mg/dl to 25.33±3.3 mg/dl. On the other hand, there were no significant changes in the triceps skin fold, midarm circumference and midarm muscle circumference until the 4th week. We conclude that the muscle grip strength measurement is a useful and convenient test for nutritional assessment, which is as sensitive as the changes in visceral proteins, and is better than the classical anthropometric measurements. |
