英文摘要 | On Jun. 7, 1989, two artificial trees were set up in the chimpanzee enclosure at Taipei Zoo. The two trees were made of reinforced concrete and had a diameter of about 45 cm. There were 9 holes in their surface, and through these holes a dish of honey could be reached with bamboo stalks or other such sticks. A group of 10 chimpanzees (2♂/ 8♀) were released in the enclosure. They would find bamboo stalks and poke them into the holes, and then would lick the bamboo stalks after withdrawing them. We observed that chimpanzees sometimes modify bamboo stalks to make them work better. |
