| 英文摘要 | Iron status of 20 males and 29 females from an aboriginal population from Pingtung, and 48 males and 90 females from an urban population from Kaoshiung City was investigated. Venous blood was collected for the analyses of hemoglobin, hematocrit, plasma ferritin and free erythrocyte protoporphyrin (FEP). The mean hemoglobin value was: 12.9g/dl for the aboriginal female, 13.3g/dl for the urban female, 15.1g/dl for the aboriginal male, and 14.9g/dl for the urban male. The mean hematocrit was: 44% for the aboriginal female, 41% for the urban female, 48% for the aboriginal male, and 46% for the urban male. The mean plasma ferritin concentration was: 88 ng/ml for the aboriginal female, 91 ng/ml for the urban female, 144 ng/ml for the aboriginal male, and 161 ng/ml for the urban male. The mean FEP values was 14.1 ng/dl for the urban female. Statistical analysis indicated that the female had significantly lower hemoglobin and serum ferritin values than the male, yet the difference between the two populations was not significant. However, there were both regional and gender difference for hematocrit values. It is estimated that 19% of the female might be iron deficient, among which 8% exhibited iron deficient anemia, and 11% were latent iron deficient. Iron deficiency of the male is estimated to be 1.5%. The mean serum ferritin concentration of women of child-bearing age was less than 60 ng/ml; this population is at high risk of iron deficiency and the deficiency rate is estimated to be as high as 30%. |
