英文摘要 | Polyblends were made by mixing ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR) in a polypropylene matrix. In addition, fillers such as calcium carbonate and glass beads were added into the polyblends and formed composites. The impact strength, tensile strength, Young's modulus, heat distortion temperature and rheological properties of those polyblends and composites were investigated as they varied with the composition of the material. The impact strength of polypropylene was greatly reinforced by adding a rubber component. Our data showed that the impact strength of a polypropylene blend with 30% EPR could reach 56.5 kg-cm/cm, an increase of 26 times of the value of pure polypropylene (2.2 kg-cm/cm). However, the tensile strength, Young's modulus and heat distortion temperature of those blends decreased as the EPR contents increased. The addition of calcium carbonate or glass beads would lower the impact and tensile strengthes of the polyblends while their modulus, dimensional and thermal stabilities could be enhanced. Employing different mixing methods and fabrication techniques could have tremendous effects on the properties of the polyblends. Our results showed that polyblends mixed by extrusion had much better mechanical properties than those mixed by solution. Futhermore, injection molding gave an orientation effect which was much desired and lacked in a compression molding process. |
