英文摘要 | Observations and experiments were conducted to study the process of leaf morphogenesis, internal structure, arrangement and number of stoma, morphology of vascular bundle and the storage sites of essential oil of adult leaf of Java type citronella grass. The morphogenesis from shoot apex to adult leaf have been studied to understand the physiological characteristics and morphological differntiations. The following results were obtained from the studies: 1. The internal structure of adult leaf of citronella grass (1) The stomata distributed on the adaxial and abaxial side of leaf. Arrangement, number, length and width of stomata on the adaxial side differ from the abaxial one. In general, the arrangement of stomata on the abaxial side is lined in 2-8 rows side by side but on the adaxial side is lined in a single (Fig. 1A-1B). The length, width of stomata on the abaxial side is smaller, but stoma number are more than those on the adaxial side (Table 1). (2) The small vascular bundles of uncertain number situated between two large vascular bundles. All the small vascular bundles are differentiated near to the abaxial side. The big epidermal cells are parenchym atous nature and differentiated on the adaxial side (Fig. 2A, 2B). (3) Chloroplasts were contained in the mesophyll cells among the vascular bundles. Besides, bundle sheaths have conspicuous chloroplasts too. But no chloroplasts were found in the epidermal cells (Fig. 2A, 2B). (4) The essential oil drops were stored in the adaxial epidermal cells and mesophyll cells. In general, the oil drops found in the adaxial epidermal cells are larger than those in the mesophyll cells, but the numbers are less (Fig. 3A). (5) Judge from the characteristics of bundle sheath and the compact arrangement of vascular bundles in the leaf, citronella grass might belong to the Panicoideae plant. 2. Morphogenesis of Java type citronella grass leaf When a new leaf appeared from the lower leaf sheath of citronella grass was termed P7 (Fig. 4), there are another four young leaves and two leaf primordia near to the shoot apex are found within P7. They are termed from the nearest to the shoot apex as P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, and P6. The P1 to P6 will pass through succeeding development in morphological characteristics. The morphogenetical process that have been observed may summarize as following (Fig. 5, 6, 7A, 7B, 9, 10. Table 3, 4): Shoot apex……the structure of apical part coincides with tunica-corpus theory with two tunica layers P1 (Primordium stage)…a small protuberance appears at the foot of the shoot apex P2 (Primordium stage)…(1) the protuberance encircles the shoot apex like a hook (2) large vascular bundles begin to differentiate in this protuberance P3 (Yough leaf stage)…(1) small vascular bundles begin to differentiate (2) protophloems begin to differentiate P4 (Yough leaf stage)… (1) protoxylem and trichome differentiations are observed (2) chloroplasts appear in mesophyll cells and bundle sheaths P5 (Yough leaf stage)…(1) metaphloems begin to differntiate (2) stomata appear on the abaxial side of the leaf (3) essential oil drops appear P6 (Yough leaf stage)…becomes into hard texture whollly except the base P7 (Yough leaf stage)…(1) begins to emerge out from the lower leaf sheath (2) ligule, auricle, blade joint differentiate (3) a trypical leaf with leaf blade and leaf sheath demarcates by the blade joint (4) stomata appear on the adaxial side (5) metaxylems differentiate in the leaf blade P8 (Yough leaf stage)…(1) the elongated leaf tip begins to drop down (2) metaxylems differentiate in the leaf sheath P9(Yough leaf stage)…red color appears on the inner surface of the leaf sheath foot P10 (adult leaf)…(1) blade joint begins to emerge out from the leaf sheath (2) red color appears on the outer surfacet of the leaf sheath (3) leaf formation has accomplished |
