| 英文摘要 | From his debut The Hanging Tree(1970) to The Story of Niudu Harbor (1984), much of Wang, Tuo’s fiction centers around Badouzi Fishing Harbor in Keelung and the lives of its fishermen and families. These works embody the realism he advocated during the Native Literature Debate while while incorporating maritime themes into his literary vision, making Wang a pioneer of postwar maritime literature in Taiwan. His fishing harbor narratives, spanning the 1970s and 1980s before his entry into politics, were marked by two historical moments: the Diaoyutai Movement, which which initiated his creative work, and the Kaohsiung Incident as its turning point. Across three stages of his fishing harbor narratives, Wang depicts encompass themes such as the life predicaments of fishermen awaiting enlightenment and disenchantment, the intensifying class divisions under industrialization, and the humanity trials faced by the intellectuals during the White Terror. Rooted in both Wang’s fishing village upbringing and his intellectual perspective, these texts reveal deep humanistic concerns and reflect the sociocultural realities of maritime communities. This article focuses on Aunt Jinshui, May You Return Soon, and The Story of Niudu Harbor, analyzing the evolution of Wang’s thematic concerns and clarifying the interplay between his fiction and the cultural-spatial context of Badouzi. |
