| 英文摘要 | This article reinterprets T. C. Chao's early indigenous theology from the World Christianity perspective based on his writing from the late 1910s to 1920s. This article argues that his indigenous theology and ecumenical vision were closely related. Chao advocated Christianity's sinicisation to contribute to its catholicisation. He emphasised the catholicity of Christianity. Both Chinese and Western Christianity are parts of World Christianity with a cooperative and complementary relationship. Although he advanced the reconciliation between Christianity and Chinese Confucian culture, Christianity should be the essence. In his mind, Chinese Christianity ought to be "Christian Essence and Confucian Utility". |
