| 英文摘要 | Objective: In 2007 we investigated 541 patients who came for the physical examinations at Chu Shang Show Chwan Hospital. We measured their high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level and their waist circumference in order to investigate the link between these measurements and metabolic syndrome. 29.0% (157/541) of patients in the study had metabolic syndrome. The average levels of each risk factors in patients with metabolic syndrome were significantly higher than in patients without metabolic syndrome. The age distribution of patients with metabolic syndrome was from 38 to 95 years old. Of the patients with metabolic syndrome 74.5% had abdominal obesity, and 48.4% had a history of hypertension, 26.8% had a history of hyperlipidemia, 21.7% had a history of diabetes. We have informed patients with metabolic syndrome of their test results and have also provided them with information on how to diagnose metabolic syndrome and how they can change their nutritional habits in order to benefit their health. We have also recommended that patients exercise regularly in order to reduce abdominal obesity, as well as having regular check-ups so that they can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and strokes. At present, the test for HDL-C is not covered for adults and elderly by National Health Insurance Bureau, we recommend that patients check their HDL-C level at their own expense in order to diagnose metabolic syndrome. |
