| 英文摘要 | This paper investigates the distinctive feature of “Tian Wen” (天問), a poem included in the “Chu Ci” (楚辭). The poem consists entirely of questions without answers, establishing it as not only a unique case in the history of Chinese literature but also a rare example worldwide. Despite suspected textual dislocations, its structure remains discernible, progressing from inquiries about the way of heaven to human affairs and ultimately concluding with matters related to the state of Chu. The first section of this article focuses on its remarkable rhetorical technique of “continuous questioning,” which uses interrogative phrasing and rhyme to efficaciously attract the attention of its intended audience. The second section explores Warring States rulers’ curiosity about Heaven and analyzes “Tian Wen” in relation to contemporaneous excavated manuscripts and transmitted texts, demonstrating that its “knowing heaven” structure, with its transition from the way of heaven to human affairs, aligns with the intellectual trends of the Warring States period. The third part discusses how the section on human affairs employs continuous questioning as a strategic writing technique to convey political admonition, urging rulers to govern with caution and virtue. This study moves beyond traditional approaches and recontextualizes “Tian Wen” within the intellectual and historical landscape of the Warring States period, highlighting how contemporary ideological currents shaped both its form and content. |
