| 英文摘要 | In February 2024, a cluster outbreak of COVID-19 occurred at the nursing home affiliated with a teaching hospital in a southern region of Taiwan. A total of seven individuals developed fever and respiratory symptoms—six residents and one staff member. Rapid antigen tests were administered to those exhibiting influenza-like symptoms or more severe cases involving shortness of breath and low blood oxygen levels, all of which returned positive results. Investigation revealed that, aside from the staff member, all infected residents had received the XBB vaccine. However, most residents were elderly and had multiple chronic conditions and physical or mental disabilities, which are high-risk factors for infection. Additionally, the nursing home’s densely populated and enclosed environment made it prone to rapid transmission if potential sources of infection were not promptly identified. The outbreak was monitored until March 11, 2024, with no new cases reported after that date. The event underscores the importance of routine infection control measures, early detection of institutional vulnerabilities, proactive infection prevention interventions, and timely adjustments, all of which contributed to the effective containment of the outbreak and reduction of infection risk within the facility. |
