| 英文摘要 | This article explores the professional roles and work content of social workers in the field of long-term care in Southern California, USA, from an interdisciplinary perspective. Between August and October 2023, the author conducted qualitative research through in-depth interviews with seven cross-disciplinary respondents from long-term care institutions. The research findings reveal the diverse roles of social workers, including: 1) direct service provider, 2) resource connector, 3) information provider, 4) evaluator, and 5) multi-functional roles. Among these, the more distinctive roles of social workers are: 1) psychological counselor, 2) information translator, and 3) social reformer. The work content includes: 1) resource linkage and referral, 2) welfare administrative work, 3) assisting clients in accessing resources, 4) solving home care issues, 5) seeking funding, 6) participating in policy and legislative reforms, 7) resource advocacy, and 8) assisting in translating service content. The roles of social workers in the field of long-term care in the United States emphasize intermediary administrative services, the connection and advocacy of external social resources, and intervention in diverse issues. These characteristics are worth reflecting upon for the development of long-term care social work in Taiwan, particularly in terms of rethinking professional roles and work content. At the same time, it is essential to address the current issues in Taiwan, where long-term care institutions face insufficient staffing due to budgetary and regulatory constraints. Efforts should be made to enhance training related to psychological counseling skills for social workers specializing in elderly care, as well as to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration mechanisms and capabilities, thereby clarifying the roles and functions of social workers. Furthermore, there is a need to advance interdisciplinary collaboration models and improve the support of relevant laws and policies to promote the professional development of long-term care social work. |
