| 英文摘要 | In 2022, the "Iron Chain Girl" incident in Xuzhou triggered an enormous public outcry, revealing the oppressive forces exerted by two distinct power systems: gender and politics. Almost two decades earlier, Yan Lianke's novel Lenin's Kisses had already explored the intricate interplay between these two systems. Previous studies primarily focused on the political and historical dimension of disability narratives in this novel, rarely touching upon the discourse on gender, despite its crucial role in the portrayal of disability. To address this gap, this study adopts a text-centered interdisciplinary methodology to examine female disabilities in Lenin's Kisses. It posits that Lenin's Kisses diverges from the traditional emphasis on emotional expression in female illness narratives by directing attention towards female physical disabilities, while it exhibits limitations. Such narratives reflect patriarchal influences while simultaneously reinforcing the novel's theme, as demonstrated in three ways. Firstly, female disability is categorized into three distinct types (as opposed to male disability), which are used to unveil the metaphorical imprisonment they impose and the stagnant power system. Secondly, female disability is sexualized as a joint product of the male gaze and grotesque narrative style. Lastly, the duality of male as both destroyer and healer rationalizes male violence and reveals a misogynistic perception of female bodies. Thus, in Lenin's Kisses, the seemingly parallel power systems of politics and gender converge in the portrayal of female illness, illustrating how these women are unable to escape either the encroachment of external politics and urbanization or the repression of patriarchy. |
