| 英文摘要 | After the October Revolution in Soviet Russia, communism posed significant challenges to Christianity globally, including in China, sparking imaginations among Chinese and foreign Christians of communism as a religion in itself. They discovered the religious nature in communist practices of both China and Soviet Russia, particularly the latter, and used it as a foundation to construct a religious identity for communism. The translation and introduction of the "Communist as Religion" theory by Western theologians, represented by Nikolai Berdyaev, prompted a theoretical deepening of the theory also among Christians in Republican China. In essence, they frequently engaged in religious imaginings and identity constructions, and regarded the encounter between Christianity and communism as an interaction between two religions. The aim was to stimulate a Christian identity awareness, using the "Communist Religion" as the Other, and thus a contrasting resource to highlight the inadequacies of the Christian self, thereby paving the way to transcend the "Communist Religion" and constructing a more idealized Christian identity. |
