| 英文摘要 | This study focused on Kucapungane, an indigenous settlement of the Rukai people, exploring its preservation as a national historic site and the practical experiences involved in restoring traditional houses. Kucapungane holds profound historical and cultural significance, with its slate stone house construction techniques exemplifying the Rukai people’s wisdom in coexisting harmoniously with the natural environment. Although Kucapungane was designated as a national historic site in 1991, its preservation and restoration efforts have faced multiple challenges, including structural aging, a loss of traditional architectural techniques, and insufficient resource investment. However, guided by the spirit of the “Rekindle the Hearth” initiative and with support from the Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, the Rukai people have gradually advanced the restoration of traditional slate stone houses and the preservation of their culture. This study investigated the history of Kucapungane, its migratory process, and the challenges of settlement preservation, as well as the current state of traditional architectural techniques and strategies for their future transmission. Additionally, this study examined the role of youth training and cultural education in enhancing community engagement, ensuring that historic site preservation and cultural revitalization progress in tandem. Finally, this study underscored the importance of the “Rekindle the Hearth” activity as a cultural symbol that connects ancestral spirits, tradition, and contemporary life, while also advocating for the establishment of more effective long-term preservation strategies to secure the sustainable development of Rukai culture. |
