| 英文摘要 | According to the 2019 Global Dementia report of Alzheimer's Disease International, there are estimated to be 50 million people diagnosed with dementia. The number will grow to 152 million in 2050. WHO has estimated there is a newly diagnosed dementia patient every 3 seconds. The population diagnosed with dementia increased rapidly in Taiwan. According to the Ministry of Interior census, the population of dementia patients will reach 550 thousand by the year 2036. This finding will create an impact and burden on individual families and society as a whole. About 50 percent of dementia patients in other foreign countries rely on nursing institutions. In contrast, a high percentage of dementia care heavily depends on home care which reflects the social norm of filial duty in Taiwanese culture. Thus, in order to provide better quality in caring for dementia patients, the importance of educating the caretakers in assisting patients' daily activities and dietary needs plays a vital role in care. This research focuses on the in-depth discussion of subject matter in nutrition and dietary care for dementia patients. Currently, there is a lack of well-rounded evidence-based research indirect relationship between malnutrition and dementia. Most of the research focuses on investigating the aberrant behaviors in eating and amelioration. This research concurrently discusses food selection and nutrients for improvement and palliation of memory decline. The evidence and definition of malnutrition in this research are defined as low BMI of the individual, deficiency of albumin, insufficiency of total cholesterol, and low hemoglobin. The diagnosis of malnutrition is also incorporated with the Traditional Chinese Medicine four diagnosis method. |
