| 英文摘要 | This study examines the curatorial practices of the Xinfu Market (U-mkt), a municipally designated heritage site located in Wanhua District of Taipei. Operated by the Jut Foundation for Arts and Architecture since 2015, this former market building, constructed in 1935 and designated as a historic monument in 2006, has been transformed into a “living museum” that integrates food education, dialogues on local issues, and cultural interpretation. Through annual exhibitions, open calls, collaborative projects, and market events, the foundation engages with the market space via cultural translation, aiming to establish a dynamic network with local vendors and the surrounding community. Taiwan’s heritage revitalization and traditional market renewal efforts have faced challenges such as the disuse of tangible cultural assets and the decline of everyday intangible cultures. In this complex local context, the foundation—initially perceived as an outsider— employed curatorial strategies as a mode of engagement. For this research, a qualitative case study approach was adopted that combined data analysis, in-depth interviews, and participatory observation to explore how curatorial practices facilitate relationship-building and contribute to local cultural revitalization. The findings suggested that curatorial practices are multi-dimensional co-creative processes. In this case, the foundation treated curation as an intermediary platform for cultural production, inviting diverse creators and young practitioners to co-construct local identity and social ties. This process not only reinforced a renewed sense of place but also marked a shift in attitude from “you” and “me” to “us” within the community. In addition, by reflecting on concepts of ecomuseums, community participatory curation, and cultural governance, a civil society-led model of cultural spatial practice characterized by strong publicness and participatory engagement is proposed. This case is a potential reference for rethinking heritage and traditional market revitalization in both theory and practice. |
