| 英文摘要 | The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of exercise ground at night on locomotion score (1 to 5 points, 1 for health, 5 for severe lameness) and milking performance of Holstein lactating cows under a high temperature humidity index (THI) in summer. The experiment was carried out for 120 days from May to August 2022. The 16 dairy cows with an average milk yield of 31 kg were divided into 2 groups, respectively, the control group (in the cowshed all day, with fans and spray water for cooling) and the treatment group (in the cowshed during the day, with the exercise ground provide at night). This trial measured the environmental parameters (temperature, humidity, and calculated temperature humidity index) and milk production of the cowshed throughout the whole period, and the locomotion score, milk composition and blood biochemical value every 30 days were measured. The results showed that the average THI throughout the day in the cowshed is 76.4±1.8, and the average THI in the exercise ground at night is 75.5±1.4. Providing the exercise ground after 120 days had the effect of reducing the locomotion score of the cow (2.31 vs. 2.00), but it did not affect the milk production, milk composition and blood biochemical value of the cow. The dairy cows still maintain nearly 29.2 kg milk production and 3.86% milk fat, 3.29% milk protein, and 270,000 per mL somatic cells. In summary, in the summer (THI around 76) of southern Taiwan, providing exercise ground for dairy cows under the high temperature and humidity index had the effect of improving the health of the dairy cows' hoofs and animal welfare, and it did not affect the milk performance and blood chemistry. It was recommended that providing exercise ground was one of the strategies to relieve the heat stress of Holstein lactating cows in summer. |
