| 中文摘要 | 過往區域地理經常被批評為描述性學科,以及受到研究方法的限制,逐漸沒落。直到2015年後,有地理學者提出關係性的區域地理,以及國內學者對於區域研究理論化的反思,讓區域地理有創新的可能性。本文以越南研究為例,回顧西方學者、海外越南學者,以及國內臺灣學者對於越南研究成果,再訪區域研究。本文透過回顧越南研究的三個面向,(1)越南是一個國家,不是一場戰爭、(2)從社會主義到新自由主義,以及(3)人地關係轉變,描繪越南研究的區域特徵與理論貢獻。藉此回答區域地理需要面對的三個基本問題:該如何界定區域?區域地理是從誰的觀點出發?以及區域地理如何貢獻人文地理學的理論發展?本文主張越南研究雖然是一個以國家為單位的研究學科,但學者們早就透過多尺度分析,關注越南內部歷史、地理與社會的異質性,以及越南與其他區域的跨國連結。再者,本文從世界的越南研究,指出研究者透過多點場域與位置性,實踐關係性的區域地理學。最後,區域地理學者在理論化上,可採用關鍵詞與中程理論,允許各地學者參與打造理論家族的可能性,讓概念能夠置於其他脈絡。在方法論上,地理學者也應投入紮實的田野工作,面對區域當地的不確定性,思考區域地理/區域研究(或是越南研究)的創作潛力。 |
| 英文摘要 | Regional geography has been criticised as a useless discipline owing to its descriptive nature and methodology limitations. Since 2015, geographers have proposed relational area studies as a helpful tool to revive regional geography. In addition, Taiwanese scholars also reflected on how Taiwanese studies can improve its influence on international academic communities by theorising Taiwanese experiences. This paper aims to revisit regional geography by reviewing Vietnamese studies conducted by Western scholars, overseas Vietnamese scholars, and Taiwanese researchers in Vietnamese studies. In doing so, this research focused on three themes in Vietnamese studies: (1) Vietnam as a country, not a war; (2) from socialism to neoliberalism; (3) human-environmental relations. This progress report can help readers to understand Vietnam's unique geographical characteristics and theoretical contributions. Furthermore, it can also answer three fundamental questions within regional geography: (1) How to define the boundary of region? (2) Whose viewpoints are adopted in regional geography? (3) How does regional geography develop theories contributing to human geography and social theory? First, this paper argues that scholars have already mobilised multi-scalar analysis to explore the geographical-historical heterogeneity of Vietnam and the inter-regional connections between Vietnam and other regions. Second, Vietnamese studies have multiple methods to develop worlding Vietnamese studies. Third, scholars have developed keywords that could be applied to other contexts and construct the family of theory. Meanwhile, geographers have conducted solid fieldwork to develop novel concepts from regional geography. |
