| 中文摘要 | Grice 有關間接表達語意的會話言外之意理論,建構完整且廣受應用。然而,相關依據英語為外國語或第二語言學習者表現的研究顯示,在英語國家常用而定型的會話言外之意對來自不同文化背景的學習者而言是難以理解的。本研究以兩組台灣大學生作為研究對象,企圖從學生接收英語會話言外之意教學前後表現差異,了解在課堂上會話言外教學的確實效果。教學過程協助學生了解中西文化相異處與相似處,並提升學生們較有效溝通技巧。實驗結果對未來研究的應用也將在本文中提出。 |
| 英文摘要 | Grice’s well-established theory of conversational implicature (1975) in expressing a message indirectly has wide and useful applications. However, previous studies research based on English as a foreign or second language learners, such as Keenan’s (1975) and Bouton’s (1988), have evidenced that learners with different cultures experience difficulty understanding implicatures that have been routinely communicated in the English-speaking environments. The present study is an attempt to investigate the effect of explicit teaching on learning English conversational implicatures. In order to address the question, two groups of Taiwanese EFL learners at college levels who had been given tasks of understanding English conversational implicatures at the beginning of Spring semester 2011, and they were tested again 10 weeks later. Their progress, with regards to the overall set of implicatures and to various specific types of identified, is reported and analyzed. The resulting procedure helps learners to understand areas of cultural difference and similarity, and promotes the development of more effective communication skills. The implications of these findings for further research are outlined. |
