| 英文摘要 | Public libraries, as institutions providing information services and disseminating knowledge, play a crucial role in realizing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study focuses on public libraries in Taiwan, employing a questionnaire survey to investigate their awareness of SDGs and the related equipment, facilities, measures, services, and activities they provide. The survey was conducted online from March to May 2023, inviting public libraries at various levels in Taiwan to participate. A total of 306 valid responses were collected. The main research findings are as follows: 1. Public libraries perceive their highest contributions to SDGs in the areas of SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being). 2. The majority of public libraries have not effectively linked their services and activities with SDGs. 3. The study compiled a list of 23 SDG-related equipment, facilities, and measures for public libraries. Over 50% of the libraries provide resource recycling, accessible restrooms, energy-efficient lighting, nursing rooms, short-term internship or job opportunities, energy-efficient air conditioning, accessible elevators (or lifting platforms, stair lifts), and age-friendly assistive devices. 4. Public libraries commonly promote SDGs through themed book exhibitions and lectures, primarily focusing on SDG 3, SDG 4, and SDG 5. 5. The study compiled a list of 49 SDG-related services or activities for public libraries. Only nine of these have been implemented by more than half of the surveyed libraries, mainly concentrating on SDG 1, SDG 3, SDG 4, SDG 9, SDG 11, and SDG 16. Based on these findings, the study proposes the following recommendations: 1. Public libraries should enhance their staff's awareness of the connections between their equipment, facilities, measures, services, activities, and SDGs. 2. Public libraries can utilize the lists compiled in this study for public outreach, not only to raise public awareness of SDGs but also to boost the libraries' confidence in implementing SDGs. |
