| 英文摘要 | The feeling of loneliness has become a global "epidemic," closely related to individual physical and mental health. Research indicates that when loneliness sets in, it is often accompanied by negative emotions such as loss, loneliness, or even hopelessness. Prolonged suffering from loneliness can increase the incidence of physical and mental illnesses and mortality. Among those most susceptible to feelings of loneliness are the elderly. Taiwan is expected to enter a super-aged society by 2025, making it crucial to address how to help the elderly alleviate loneliness and promote their mental health—a significant issue for contemporary Taiwanese society. This article first analyzes the causes of loneliness among the elderly from three perspectives: physiology, family, and social interaction. Secondly, it selects seven picture books related to situations of loneliness among the elderly from the author’s empirical research compiled in the book "From forlorn to tranquil: An annotated bibliography of emotional healing picture books for senior citizens. The article thoroughly examines how these picture books provide emotional healing through identification, purification, and understanding for the elderly. Finally, it explores how public libraries can utilize their collection of emotional healing picture books to promote bibliotherapeutic services for the elderly. |
