| 英文摘要 | In recent years, movements to repatriate two collected series of skeletal remains of the ancestors of Taiwan’s indigenous peoples have been launched. However, these two series are not the only ones in the collections of research institutes worldwide. In this article, we comprehensively review published research papers on the collection and research of Taiwan indigenous skeletal remains, in order to compile and update sources, quantities, and collec- tion locations of Taiwan indigenous skeletal remains. We hope that the results can provide references for indigenous peoples, government agencies, and academia when dealing with related issues in the future. The skeletal remains of Taiwan’s indigenous peoples have been collected and studied by European and American scholars and shipped overseas since the end of the Qing Dynasty. From 1895-1945, when Taiwan was under Japanese colonial rule, Japanese scholars collected a large number of Taiwan indigenous skeletal remains. In the early part of that colonial era, such bone collections were shipped to Japan. In 1918, a medical school was established and collected bones began to be stored in Taiwan. The largest such collection is of the skulls of more than 100 indigenous people who perished during the Second Wushe Incident in 1930, which were unearthed in 1936. The results of this survey showed that there are indigenous bone collections in domestic and foreign locations. The largest collection in Taiwan is that of the College of Medicine of National Taiwan University, which includes the skeletal remains of 327 individuals. Kaohsiung Medical University also has a collection. The largest collection abroad is at the University of Tokyo in Japan. |
