英文摘要 | In traditional Zen historical records, there is a mention of Bodhidharma imparting the “Lankavatara Sutra” to Huike in the four-volume edition. However, in the “Record of the Senhui” it is stated that Bodhidharma passed down the “Diamond Sutra” to the sixth patriarch Huineng, generation after generation. Due to these differing accounts, there is divergence within the academic community regarding the canonical scriptures transmitted by Bodhidharma. This paper does not dwell on the debate over historical records but delves into the ideological framework of the “Lankavatara Sutra” and contrasts it with Bodhidharma’s “Treatise on Two Entrances and Four Practices.” It is discovered that both texts share the overarching aim of realizing the inherently pure mind of the Tathagata-garbha, referred to by Bodhidharma as the “unity of the mundane and the sacred true nature” and by the “Lankavatara Sutra” as “thusness” or “self- aware holy wisdom.” Moreover, both texts employ the wisdom of realizing the inherently pure mind of the Tathagata-garbha through the emptiness of both person and phenomena in the Prajna teachings. Additionally, Bodhidharma’s attitude toward verbal teachings aligns with the “Path to the Objective” and “Doctrinal Exegesis” ideologies presented in the “Lankavatara Sutra”. |
