英文摘要 | In the 20 th century, as printing techniques and technologies continued to develop, world- renowned children’s book writers and designers emerged in Italy. Thanks to the efforts of the founder of the publishing house Emme Edizioni, many unique and experimental works were published. Such picture books did not adhere to the traditional focuses on etiquette and moral education. Rather, they presented different themes and content, opening a new chapter for children’s literature. In this article, the planning processes for the Ciao Ciao: Italian Children’s Book Exhibition, in addition to its venue Not Just Library, are introduced. Moreover, 17 of the 35 books on display, which are representative or innovative in terms of image design and emotions evoked by and connotation of the story, are analyzed. By focusing on three major dimensions of wordless picture books, book design, symbolic meaning, and reading pleasure, how images resonate with us and how they influence our imagination are explored. |
