英文摘要 | The COVID-19 pandemic began in late 2019 and we are now in the post-pandemic era. In addition to their traditional focus on university history and functions of collection, research, and display, how can university museums serve as science & technology (S&T) public engagement and science communication platforms, as well as respond to social issues? In 2021, the National Cheng Kung University Museum (NCKU Museum) invited scholars from NCKU’s colleges including humanities, medicine, natural science, and psychology to co-curate the Vax Border: The Science of Vaccines exhibition. In addition to providing concise scientific knowledge, this exhibition introduced the history of vaccines in an interac- tive, issue-focused, and interdisciplinary manner, based on the suggestions of scholars. The aim of this exhibition was to guide audiences in the exploration of the science of vaccines and related social issues from a neutral and pluralistic perspective in the midst of a pandemic. In November 2022, the Vax Border 2.0: COVID-19 Pandemic Gallery exhibition addressed COVID-19-related issues of public concern in the post-pandemic era, including the appear- ance of new coronavirus strains, virus nomenclature, and viral mutations. In October 2023, the Vax Border 3.0: COVID-19 Pandemic Gallery @Tainan Public Library focused on issues of social concern in the post-pandemic era, reaching a wider audience as it was held off- campus. It is hoped that this exhibition series served to document the impact of and issues surrounding COVID-19 in Taiwan and globally. For the NCKU Museum specifically, it inspired the documentation of contemporary issues and response to social needs. This study included a questionnaire for obtaining visitor feedback. By acting as a platform for knowledge co-creation within the university, sometimes difficult to understand knowledge of various disciplines was transformed through exhibitions, conveying key information to teachers, students, and neighboring residents. At the same time, the NCKU Museum was able to access different curatorial entry points during the planning process and better utilize exhibition content to become an informal education provider. |
