| 英文摘要 | E-Books Online Service (EBOS) is a nationwide public library service in Taiwan coordinated by the National Library of Public Information (NLPI). It was officially launched in 2009 to provide a single platform for public libraries to offer traditional Chinese character e-books to users with physical library cards. These users can register as members and borrow e-books anytime and anywhere. To gain insights into the characteristics of e-book collections and members' usage behavior, this study analyzes the cumulative data from October 2008 to May 2021 using big data analysis of EBOS. The results indicate a steady growth in the number of e-book titles and volumes, registered members, and usage of EBOS. The e-book collections predominantly cover subjects such as linguistics and literature, applied sciences, social sciences, arts, and general topics. PDF is the dominant format for the e-book collections. The majority of EBOS members and their borrowing activity are concentrated in NLPI, National Taiwan Library, the five metropolitan city public libraries of Taichung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, and Changhua County Public Library. The most borrowed e-book subjects include applied sciences, linguistics and literature, social sciences, philosophy, and arts. Personal computers (PCs) are the most popular devices used by members to read e-books. On average, each member borrows around three e-books per session. Data from 2020 reveals that the most active e-book borrowers are females aged 31 to 45. EBOS experiences heavy usage in July and August and remains intensively utilized by members of different age groups throughout the day. The peak usage hours occur from 10-11 am, 2-3 pm, and 9-10 pm. |
