| 英文摘要 | It was from Fukien and Guangdong Provinces of China that the Han-ethnic people in Taiwan inherited both the tradition of skills in delicate work of gold and silver, and the social customs of using gold and silver jewelries. From the Japanese Colonial Period to the 1970s, handcrafted production mode was adopted in gold jewelry business. Being a craftsman in delicate work of gold and silver was one of the career options in those days, and one learned various skills through 3 years and 4 months of apprenticeship training until he won the recognition of his mentor and then started to make a living on his skills. After mass replicated gold jewelries manufactured by machinery appeared in the market, goldsmiths had been striving hard to survive, the craftsmen making gold jewelries by handwork and even the industry itself was facing the danger of extinction. Since 1985, metal-working curricula have been adopted by some academic institutions related to the art and designing, a new generation of metalwork craftsmen emerged. This paper will use one of the collections of Gold Museum of New Taipei City Government – “The Jewelry Design Books” and its donor as an example, to probe the contents and transitions of the methods cultivating goldsmiths in Taiwan after World War II, and how gold craftsmen adjust to the changes, and the differences, similarities as well as pursuing aspirations between gold craftsmen of two generations. |
