英文摘要 | The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of students' learning outcome, satisfaction and participation after studying in an "English vocabulary mnemonic course" using an online social networking tool- Facebook. In the course, students learned English vocabulary by utilizing the mnemonic "keyword method" taught. A pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was employed and purposive sampling was conducted in a university in Taiwan. A total of 128 subjects participated and were assigned into experimental and control groups. For the experimental group, 68 students learned English vocabulary on Facebook during their free time while 58 students in the control group used worksheets with the same content to learn English vocabulary. The duration of the experiment was one month, and statistical analyses including two-way ANOVA and Pearson product-moment correlation were used in the study. Qualitative data, feedback regarding to the course and the subjects’ learning experience, were also collected and analyzed. The outcomes of the study were as following:(1) Students participated in the experimental group got better scores on their posttests and had more participation than students in the control group. (2) Students’ participation was positively correlated with their posttest scores, course satisfaction, and learning outcome satisfaction. (3) There was no significant correlation found between posttest scores and course satisfaction or learning outcome satisfaction. (4) Students' course satisfaction was positively correlated with learning outcome satisfaction. (5) Students' Interaction on Facebook was positively correlated with their learning results. Finally, based on the results of the study, some suggestions were provided for the teachers and future researches. |
