| 英文摘要 | Tengen sent a European diplomatic corp (1582-1590), which guided Japan to the West for the first time. This corp initiated by the Jesuit community stayed in Macau twice on its round trip, with the time spent in Macau totaling two years and eight months, approximately one third of the visiting time. The members of the corp witnessed the prosperity of Macau in the 16th century on its way to the West. They also had the opportunity to meet the Pope and received hospitable treatment. In their stay in Macau on the way back, a flood of bad news about Japan came to them. During those stranded days, people including Father Fan Li’an compiled and translated the book, Dialogues of the Envoy, and some textbooks about Japanese theology. These books embodied the fierce debate in the activities of the Jesuit Community and some comparisons of Chinese, Japanese and European civilizations in early times. This trip coincided with the Japan persecution. The experience gained through the trip revealed an inextricable linked relationship between Macau and Japanese religious organizations. Macau not only served as the transport hub and the missionary center of the far east, it was also an important place for the silk trade between the Jesuit community of Macau and Nagasaki. This line of trade was the major financial source for the Japanese regional organizations, directly prompting the creation of the corp and its trip. The printers and the printing techniques brought by the corp from Europe changed the development of civilization in Japan and East Asia tremendously. |
