| 英文摘要 | What is the significance of a strange land" in modern times? This article will examine works made in Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake. As an example, the film "Tokyo Family" (2013) by Yamada Yōji will be discussed, which was in production at the time of the earthquake. It uses "Tokyo Story" (1953) by Ozu Yasujirō as its motif and aims to animatedly describe the challenges faced by modern Japan. One such challenge is the issue of nuclear power and earthquakes. At the end of the film appears the scene of a remote island where the sons'parents live. There, the residents are concerned about each other's lives on a daily basis and have built relationships by reaching out to one another. Far from being an isolated society and a place where a person faces a lonely death, this island appears to be a "strange land, " contrasted with modern Tokyo. The island in this film is unique and different from Ozu's earlier "Tokyo Story" because it emphasizes connections to others and to the community, which are missing in the latter film. Thus, it can be considered to be a "strange land" with multiple meanings. The article will thus examine aspects of this "strange land" as it appears in "Tokyo Family" with due considerations to remarks made by director Yamada as well as the background of how the film's adaptation was entirely revised after the March 11, 2011, Great East Japan Earthquake. |
