英文摘要 | Using the case of one of the pioneers in Taiwan's neurosurgery, Dr. Albert Ly-young Shen (1936-1985), this paper affirms the necessity of introducing medical figures to medical students as role models. Through careful reconstruction of Dr. Shen's residency training at Tufts University's New England Medical Center (1971-1975), this paper demonstrates the complicated situation in which Shen could be accepted for such specialty training, and what this training could mean for him. It further argues that, pedagogically, by providing stories like Dr. Shen's, medical students can appreciate medical humanities through professionalism, career planning, and a physician's moral choice without compromising their professional education. |
