中文摘要 | 本研究旨在探討性別差異和家長教育程度對學童英語學習動機的影響。研究對象為南部六所國小的520位學生,含271位男生和249位女生。研究工具為問卷調查,問卷內容包括學生背景以及英語學習動機和態度(國小中文注音版)(Gardner, 1986)。經SPSS統計分析,結果顯示:性別差異和家長教育程度會影響學童的整體英語學習行為(p<.01)。本研究中女學生有較強的學習動機和態度。而較臨近城市地區的學童,相較之下,平均家長教育程度較高、較能指導學童英語功課,而學童本身學習英語的「整合型動機」(integrative orientation)也較強(p<.01)。然而,偏鄉地區的學童,有較積極的英語學習態度,尤其動機強度(motivational intensity)高於臨近城市地區的學童(p<.01)。顯見每位學生都具有潛能,因此如何發掘學生潛能,因材施教,提升學習動機,是當今國小全面實施英語教學的當務之急。 |
英文摘要 | The study aimed to investigate, from an aspect of social class, how parental education levels and gender differences influence children’s foreign language learning. A total of 520 Taiwanese EFL children from six elementary schools participated in the study, including 271 boys (52%) and 249 girls (48%). They were arranged by individual schools to fill out questionnaire dealing with their background, English learning motivation, attitude and motivational intensity (Gardner, 1985). All available data were processed by SPSS 17.0 for descriptive, correlation, and predictive analyses. It was found that gender differences and parental education levels did play important roles in children’s English learning. In particular, girls were more favorable in English learning (p<.01), and students from near urban area tended to have higher parental education level and integrative orientation (p<.01), but students from rural area, had the advantage of holding stronger motivational intensity (p<.01). All children were potential and how to unlock the potential of those students should be the priority of the official implementation of English teaching in Taiwanese elementary schools. |
