英文摘要 | In today's language education, not only the instrument but also the literary are emphasized. As a result, various kinds of children's literature are used into the classroom. However, with the increase of age, needs, and experiences, children need proper reading materials that suit their age. This study focused on "friendship", an issue concerned about by most adolescents, and used "Red Calabash", a short fiction by Tsao Wen-Hsuan, to investigate fifth- and sixth-grade students' interpretations of symbols. The results showed that using fictions with obvious symbols as starting readers for adolescents is a good way to help adolescents comprehend messages conveyed by fictions. The analysis of diverse interpretations of "red calabash" by fifth- and sixth-grade students showed that growth of lives under friendships was what the students mainly saw in the symbol. |
