| 英文摘要 | Soft news is playing an increasingly important role owing to the prevalence of television and online media as well as the tabloidization of the print media. However, existent studies of news translation mainly focus on hard news items, while far less attention has been paid to soft news translation. Accordingly, drawing upon functional theories of translation, reception aesthetics and the characteristics of the news audience, Chen (2013) has proposed a theoretical framework to aid the translator in giving sufficient consideration to the target readers in soft news translation. However, this framework is designed for the translation of the soft news found in newspapers or magazines rather than in other contexts. To fill the void, this paper focuses on online translation communities, where the latter are virtual communities consisting of like-minded volunteers who converge around the act of translation and collaborate for a common cause. Not officially trained as translators, these volunteers carry out translation tasks out of their own interest, and are normally not remunerated. Community news translation differs from the "traditional" forms of translation used in news organizations in terms of the collective goal, the translator's role, the relationships between team members, the publication medium and the readers' geographic locations. Unlike newspaper or magazine translators, community translators may adopt different strategies to cater to their readers' needs. In order to make Chen's (2013) framework also applicable to community news translation, this paper, which is based on Van Dijk's (2008, 2009) socio-cognitive approach to context, takes account of the social characteristics of community translation. Moreover, the author has conducted two empirical case studies of community translation, at Yeeyan.org and Global Voices, to further elaborate on the community translator's awareness of his or her readers in the translation of soft news. The results reveal that the community translator and newspaper or magazine translator will view their readers differently with regard to the target readers' horizon of expectations, aesthetic distance and textual perspectives and gaps. |
