| 英文摘要 | The purpose of this study was to examine the hypothesis: those who predicted that their team would perform well would have higher player identification, team identification, and player-team association than those who predicted that their team would not perform well. Using positive versus negative news as an experimental intervention, the experimental research design was conducted before the 2012 MLB regular season. College students were recruited and randomly assigned into two groups: one group (64 participants) read positive news reports, and the other group (57 participants) read the negative reports. After reading the reports, participants answered player identification (6 items) and team identification (6 items) questions gauging their answers on a 5-point scale. Using p = 0.10 as the threshold to test the statistical difference, the comparison analyses showed that the group who read positive news had higher levels of player identification (2.63 > 2.33, p = .079), team identification (2.32 > 2.01, p = .048), and player-team association (0.77 > 0.64, Fisher r-to-z transformation Z = 1.38, p = .084) than the group who read negative news. This study concluded that the estimated team performance would influence an individual fan's identification with the team, affect the transfer from player identification to support of the team, and have an even further impact on the fan's support for the player. |
