英文摘要 | I saw an exquisite mouse pad with the name Yao-te Chen on it, and its pattern is composed of simple circles, but they easily catch people’s attention as their lines are diverse in thickness, and their colors are bright and consistent. Therefore,My curiosity was inspired to learn about Mr. Chen’s other works and experiences. I discovered from a painting collection Showcase, Scribble—Commemorative Art Exhibition for Yao-te Chen that the pattern on the mouse pad is one of more than one hundred works of his cell phone scribble series. I planned to probe into the cause and effect of Yao-te Chen’s scribble art since I have been puzzled at why such aesthetic works of him were called scribbles, which were very different from what we knew about scribbles. After studying his works, I found that Chen had a “Life Window” series preceding his cell phone scribbles. In his painting, “Life Window” shows his poignant ideas about life, while his “scribble painting” presents his inner spirit of truth, goodness and beauty. Upon comparing Yao-te Chen’s scribbles with other similar types of scribbling arts, I found that his works are not graffiti seen on the streets and in subway, not the tags in public rest rooms, scenic areas, outdoor spaces, or on other public properties. On the contrary, they are more like mood scribbles and computer scribbles. Scribbles or graffiti seen on the streets walls are sometimes considered dirty by the public, and are also closely related to vandalism. By contrast, Yao-te Chen’s cell phone scribbles are not illegal, and he does not have to be afraid of being spotted and arrested. In addition, no toxin is discharged from spray painting, no money is required for cleaning them up, and they do not disturb others. Youngsters and teenagers nowadays cannot live without computers and cell phones. That is why cell phone scribbles of Yao-te Chen should be promoted for the public’s admiration and it could at the same time provide some educational values. There are numerous violent virtual games which have led to harmful influence. If young people can be guided to create artworks with scribble software to express their emotions, it will be a great contribution to the society. If we look into the sixty years of Chen’s lifetime, we will discover his born talent in art, expressed in his creation –Life Window, in which his many artistic ideas were embodied. Later on, his scribble art returned to the sincere state of “a baby.” The scribble art of Yao-te Chen presents truth, goodness, and beauty, and it is believed that his creation will claim a status in the field of cell phone scribbles. |
