英文摘要 | Wang Yinglin (1223–1296) was a renowned Confucian scholar during the late Southern Song and the early Yuan dynasty. Many of his works are preserved today, but most of them belong to the categories of encyclopedias, textual criticism or official memorials. This paper addresses his remarkable literary composition The Seven Sights of the Qiming Area (Siming qiguan). In this piece of prose poetry, Wang Yinglin adopts the “Sevens” genre (qi), which was extremely uncommon in the Song and Yuan dynasties, but is the continuation of a vivid pre-Tang tradition. In the Tang and Song period, Liu Zongyuan (773–819) and Chao Buzhi (1053–1110) also had composed “Sevens”. Under the brush of the three masters Liu, Chao and Wang, the effete “Sevens” style from the Han and the Six Dynasties was revived in an inventive way. These authors did not only alter the structure and the motives of their “Sevens”, but also incorporated their strong interest in local affairs. Furthermore, a thorough study of The Seven Sights of the Qiming Area allows us to better understand the complex situation of Wang Yinglin living in the context of Confucian traditions during the Song-Yuan transition period, during which he embraced the solitary attitude of a recluse, combined with an anxiety about the future fate of the Confucian tradition and the local flavor. |
