中文摘要 | 本文首先就英語文法書裡一些與時態相關的規則進行檢視,從中發現,如果依照這些規則的說明,學生在選用時態上可能產生混淆或錯用。究其原因,主要在於這些規則僅強調動詞型態的變化在表達事件發生的時間點為現在或過去,並未解釋句子表達的是屬於完成貌或非完成貌。另外有些規則,如進行式的使用,僅簡單說明不適用於狀態動詞,但並未提供原因,甚至連例外的情形也甚少著墨。本文就文法書關於時態說明不足的部分,透過例子的說明,建議將語法時貌及詞彙時貌加入時態教學中,以期幫助學生瞭解並正確使用各時態及時貌。 |
英文摘要 | This paper addresses the need to include aspect in the teaching of tense. It is shown in the paper that in grammar texts, rules dealing with tense are narrowly-conceived because they fail to present the subtle meanings expressed by a particular verb form. Students following the rules may end up using a form that is inappropriate for the context. To remedy the inadequacy of the rules, it is suggested that aspect, both grammatical and lexical, be incorporated into the instruction of tense. A review of the distinction between perfectivity and imperfectivity, as well as the classification of verbs according to their lexical aspectual properties, shows that a knowledge of aspect is crucial for an English teacher to impart to students the meanings expressed by different verb forms; for a student, a better understanding of how and why English verbs are used in a certain way can be achieved. |
