The said book is a sequel of “Journey to the West.” It continues from the start of Chapter 98, “The Tang Monk and his three disciples went on the main road,” and Chapter 98 to Chapter 100 of “Journey to the West” were rewrote. The book narrates that after the Tang Monk and his disciples obtained the True Sutras, they went back to the territory of Tang Dynasty. However, because they had craftiness in mind, it gave rise to numerous monsters’ striving to try to seize the Buddhist scripture rolls. Fortunately, the Buddha dispatched the great Bhikshus, Monk Daobi and Upa-saka Lingxuzi to protect them secretly, the danger was solved, and the Monkey King (Wukong), the Tang Monk, and other disciples thus realized and had an insight that utilizing craftiness was useless, devoutly believed in the True Sutras, and eliminated all craftiness; finally, they went back to Chang-an, and both the teacher and the disciples attained Buddhahood. Not only can the entire novel display the fantastic and abundant descriptive skills, but its implied meaning and thought have something for people to think over.
