英文摘要 | This project was aimed at reducing noise levels in the surgical ward of a regional teaching hospital. An investigation into hospitalization care services last year showed the level of satisfaction with the hospital's tranquility to be 72.0%. This meant that it was below the basic qualified level of 82.0%, which had been set by the hospital. The project team developed this investigation for the purpose of noise reduction, aiming to reach the stated goal by July 2009. The team applied checklists to measure decibel levels and tried to find out which sources produced noises during particular periods of time and in which places. The results indicated that the sources of these noises included shouting and talking among staff, patient call bells, closing doors, and work carts. Strategies to reduce decibel levels within the unit included: changing the turn over their duties, setting up disciplinary patrol for staff, lowering the volume of the calling bells, setting up anti-noise wrap in the room where forceps are autoclaved, and regular maintenance of the carts' wheels so as to lower the noise they produce. This strategy led to the average decibel level decreasing from 60 to 52 dB. The frequency with which the decibel level exceeded 60 dB was decreased from 57 times to 10 times within 3 months. Through these noise control efforts, the satisfaction scores for the unit increased to 84.4% in November, 2009. |
