英文摘要 | The doctrine of biblical inerrancy states that the biblical autographs are inspired by the Holy Spirit and are thereby without error. An autograph is the final product of inspired authorship, which may involve more than one author or redactor over a period of time. The internal testimony of the Holy Spirit is essential to an acceptance of the doctrine of inerrancy.A restatement of the doctrine of inerrancy begins with the works of A. A. Hodge and B. B. Warfield, especially the latter, and is supplemented by the works of others, including John M. Frame and Bruce K. Waltke.The methodology of this paper in defending biblical inerrancy is primarily a type of circular reasoning plus induction of evidences. Warfield usually used the methodology of induction of evidences. However, in establishing inerrancy, he relied on the teaching of biblical passages as evidence for inerrancy. This means that, in this case, induction of evidences amounts to a type of circular reasoning. Circular reasoning cannot be avoided if one were to establish the highest authority. The inductive method is secondary rather than primary, since induction of evidences cannot achieve 100% certainty, which inerrancy requires.The primary argument for inerrancy is based on four sub-arguments: (1) God is truth, therefore God's words are true. The Holy Spirit moves human authors to write down God's words (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21), therefore whatever the inspired Scriptures affirms is truth. Truth implies inerrancy. (2) The message of the Scriptures has divine attributes. (3) There are New Testament passages that refer to Old Testament passages as what ”God says”, as well as New Testament passages that refer to the Old Testament words of God as what ”Scripture says”. In other words, ”Scripture says” = ”God says”. (4) Many passages show that Jesus considered the Scriptures as having the highest authority.Induction of evidences supports the primary argument for inerrancy. First, the formation and boundary of the biblical canon is discussed. This discussion is necessary because without a clear boundary of canonicity, we would not know which books are inerrant. Second, it is argued that, by means of textual criticism and redundancy of content, the message of the autographs has been preserved to this day. A critique of Bart Ehrman is also provided. Lastly, a tri-perspectival method for dealing with Bible difficulties is presented. |
