英文摘要 | Background and Purpose: Taiwan is endowed by nature with rich resources of hot spring. However, the use of hot spring resources is merely focused on leisure activities, hot mineral soaks, and dining. It is rarely applied in healthcare as, for example, water exercises. In this study we examined the user experience and acceptance of hot springs and water exercises, as well as service demands in recreation medicine among college students in Eastern Taiwan. This study adopted the stratified sampling method. A total of 632 questionnaires were sent, and 507 returned copies were valid, with a return rate of 80 %. Results: More than 90% of college students have gone to hot springs and swimming pools for the purpose of tourism and leisure as well as exercise. However, the cognitive performance in both hot springs and water exercises concerning the water temperature was fair. In addition, women had higher cognitive scores than men in both hot springs and water exercises. The cognitive scores of students in the department of medicine or leisure recreation exhibited significant differences with those of students in non-medical or non-leisure recreation faculties. A health status with a higher awareness of hot springs was perceived as superior, and significant differences were present. In the acceptance of combining hot springs and water exercises (i.e. spa exercises), providing the responses of soaking in hot springs, general therapy information of spa exercises, guidance of general water exercises by physical therapists (PT), specific therapy programs for diseases and syndrome by on-site PTs, and the physiological changes after spa exercises were more significant. In addition, 82.6% of college students expected to enjoy these services. Conclusion: Most college students in this study agree on the significance of combining hot springs with water exercises. |
