英文摘要 | This study investigates interlanguage pragmatics in request sequences of Taiwanese Japanese Language learners whose first language is the Chinese (TJL). Data from the contact discourse groups were compared with baseline data of Japanese (JJ) and Taiwanese (TT) native speakers. Our research focuses on the following three questions: 1) are there any differences or similarities between the conversational styles, request strategies, expressions and pragmatic norms as seen across the JJ and TT groups, 2) based on the results of 1), are there any L1 effects visible in TJL requests, and 3) are pragmatic problems observed in the interaction between TJL (requester) and TJJ (addressees) which can be attributed to different pragmatic norms. Data were collected by role-play, and then analyzed statistically and qualitatively. The request utterances were grouped according to “semantic formula” and compared between JJ, TT, and the contact discourse groups. Analysis of the request openings shows that there are large differences between TT, JJ and the contact discourse groups. This study showed that TJL transferred their L1 socio-pragmatics rules to their performance of requests in Japanese. Furthermore, the deviation of TJL requests from native baseline data confused the TJJ. Similarly, deviation of TJJ responses from TT baseline data confused the TJL. The results of this study indicate that, the problems observed in contact discourse were attributed to discourse management problems and pragmatic failure of TJL. |
