英文摘要 | Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT) has been applied in adult with non-fluent aphasia for nearly four decades. The main characteristic of the MIT is to design a musical melody, rhythm and stress based on client's spoken intonation. The positive effect of applying MIT to treating aphasic clients, mainly for English speaking clients, has been demonstrated. However, its application to Chinese (Mandarin) speaking clients is relatively rare. This could be attributed to the facts that Chinese is a tonal language for which MIT was not designed and for the other two notes employed in Western MIT are insufficient to represent tonality in Chinese. In this study, the investigator proposes a modified MIT method for Chinese aphasic clients, abbreviated as MIT-C. It remedies the problems of applying the original MIT to clients with non-fluent aphasia by deciding on the amount of notes and the intervals between the notes. The reasons, principle, and procedure for modifying the MIT-C are described, and its application in a Chinese speaking client with non-fluent aphasia could be also discussed. |
