英文摘要 | This paper provides a macro-definition of culture and discusses the role of culture in the intervention of any language. The focus of this paper is going to focus on the need of speech language pathologists and audiologists to pay close attention to the importance of culture in the provision of assessment and intervention. Further, the paper will discuss the major differences between the two major cultural patterns, namely, individualist and collectivist cultures. In addition, the paper will elaborate on the role of culture in the development of language competence. The paper will provide suggestions on how to create an Optimal Language Learning Environment and Experience (OLLEE) for language learners and clients/patients who are having difficulties with language. The paper will review the development of cross cultural communicative competence which is essential for speech language pathologists and audiologists. Finally, case studies and possible Taiwanese scenarios as well as a discussion of clinical implications will be presented. |
