英文摘要 | The Chishan fault is an active fault in southern Taiwan. According to recent findings, the northern segment of this fault is different and distinguishable from that of the southern segment in terms of its structural pattern, stratigraphy as well as the latest reactivation time. Therefore, it is proper and proposed by some geologists to use its original name the Ne-in fault to represent the northern segment while the name Chishan fault represents the southern segment only as used in the present report. In the present study, detailed field investigation combining the borehole data and geodetic data are used to delineate the structural features and deformation style of the Chishan fault and its surrounding area. The Chishan fault strikes the southwest and extends from the south of Chishan township, southwestward to Wushanding, then turning southward to Shengshui and finally striking southwest. And then, the Chishan fault was covered by recent alluvium deposits. However, based on the borehole data deployed in the possible fault trace in plain area, this fault might extend further to Tashe and then turn extending and dissipating southward past Zenwu. In addition, a fault named Shengshuikeng fault is exposed in the footwall of the Chishan fault, and is proposed to be the branch fault of the latter. The Chishan fault is composed of a master fault and several branch faults to integrate into a deformation zone that ranged 40-400 meters wide in various outcrops. The master fault consists a 9 to 30 meter wide of fault gouge and fault breccia that is located within 10 meters from the fault core, and dense fractures and foliated rocks in the surrounding damaged rocks. The master fault of the Chinshan fault has the sense of movement of reverse-slip with sinistral-slip component based on the movement sense obtained from the slickensides on the fault planes and fracture planes in the fault zone. A simple kinematic model combining field observations is used to elucidate the deformation style of the Chishan fault and its surrounding area. The Chishan fault cut the terrace deposits dated 7,189 yr. B.C., then its fault plane might heal. Because there were no slickensides are found indicating right-lateral slip though some workers using geodetic data to propose it exhibits dextral-slip of movement sense. It is proposed that the rock body containing the Chishan fault might suffer right-lateral simple shear deformation with shortening. In such a circumstance the finite pattern of the slip of each monitor spot would exhibit an apparent dextral-slip without any slip along the fault plane. |
